July 16, 2010 Dear Constituents We're continuing to make progress with our door knocking, sign waving and fundraising. Despite the continuing hot weather, we knocked on doors in Pikesville, Rodgers Forge and Lutherville over the past week. The voters are expressing concerns about the state budget, the economy, and especially, JOBS! As the Governor's race begins to take shape, it's clear that the economy and jobs will be the focus. The same is true for races for the General Assembly, including the 42nd district. Pocketbook issues like taxes and spending, jobs and the economy are dominating the headlines. We've been repeatedly stressing that the best thing government can do to spur job creation is to make Maryland more business-friendly by cutting taxes, enacting reasonable and predictable regulations, and creating an environment that allows the private sector to create wealth and jobs. Government should not stifle small businesses -- and larger ones too -- with onerous regulations and stifling bureaucracy. I still believe in the magic of the market to create and sustain wealth and good-paying jobs, and I believe most Marylanders believe that, too. We've been waving at traffic most weekday mornings. Over the past week, you might have seen us at Charles Street and Towsontown Blvd, Greenspring Avenue and Old Court Road, or Dulaney Valley Road and Fairmount Avenue. We're getting lots of waves and thumbs-up; the reaction is quite positive. Our fundraising is right on track. After paying for lots of bills recently, from signs to brochures, to our participation in the July 4th parade, we still have more than $50,000 cash on hand. This is due to our many, many generous supporters who have always been there for me since 2002. I truly appreciate your confidence in me. Another task that is keping me busy is completing the requisite questionnaires from the various groups and lobbies. Recent questionnaires have come in from the MD Farm Bureau, the MD Chamber of Commerce, the MD Catholic Conference, the League of Women Voters, MD Right to Life Committee, and many others. Groups want to know where various candidates stands on issues important to them. A highlight of the past week was attending the dedication of Towson's new Olympian Park on the Towson Circle. It is a great little pocket-park amid the hustle and bustle of Towson, and the park pays tribute to the many Baltimore County Olympic athletes over the last several years, including Towson's own Michael Phelps. Michael and his mom Debbie were both on hand for the dedication. We're very proud of all of our Olympians. My family is heading to Bethany Beach on July 17th for the week. I'm heading down too, but it's sometimes difficult to relax during an election year. I'm planning to attend the annual Millard Tawes Crab Feast on Wed., July 21st in Crisfield, then head up to Carroll County that evening to introduce my good friend, Delegate Susan Krebs, at her annual fundraiser. Then Thursday morning, I'll head back to the beach. Next Saturday, the door knocking continues. Let's hope the heat mitigates somewhat. I truly enjoy meeting the voters, and learning what's on their mind. Until next week, stay cool and enjoy the beautiful Maryland summer. Finally, let me put a plug in for our local farmers. We have three great Farmers Markets in our district: Tuesdays from 3-6 pm at Kenilworth Mall, Wednesday afternoons at the MD State Fairgrounds, and Thursdays, 11 am - 3 pm on Alleghany Avenue in Towson. Please support our local farmers and stop by one of these fabulous markets in the coming weeks. Delegate Bill Frank
